Mastering the New Drift Handling Model
The rebuilt physics reward smoothness over spam. Learn weight transfer, the tap-to-initiate trick, and the throttle-control loop.

If early footage is anything to go by, the handling model rewards finesse over button-mashing. Drifting is now a conversation between weight, grip, and throttle — not a single magic input.
The core loop
- Approach the corner wide and brake in a straight line first.
- Tap the handbrake to break rear grip — do not hold it.
- Countersteer immediately and feather the throttle to hold the angle.
- Look through the corner and unwind the steering as you exit.
- Practice on wet surfaces first; grip returns faster than you expect.
Reading the weight
Watch the nose dip under braking — that forward weight is what lets the rear rotate. Get the timing right and the car pivots; get greedy on throttle and it snaps straight. Smooth wins.
